Hannah Fischer, Visiting Artist

Hannah Fischer is an artist and choreographer originally from the Midwest who relocated to Salt Lake City in 2018. She has spent the bulk of her nearly 15-year career making dance in many community constellations.

Fischer holds a BA in Humanistic Studies from Saint Mary’s College at Notre Dame and an MFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah. Additionally, she has a Graduate Screendance Certificate and a Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis Certificate, both of which frame her ongoing creative work. In her time at the University of Utah, Fischer was awarded a rare Graduate Research Fellowship for her research on the ethics of touch in university dance education.

In her choreographic career, Fischer has created a large body of work. She created much of the work as founding director of Fischer Dance in South Bend, IN, and as assistant director for Leverage Dance Theater in St. Louis, MO. Her creative work ranges from small, intimate environments to large-scale interdisciplinary collaborations.

Fischer has received support for her creative work through an Individual Artist Grant from the Indiana Arts Commission, the Margaret Hill Visiting Artist Endowment, the Fauman Foundation Fund, the Catherine-Dooley Grant for Peace and Justice, and was an associate artist in residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in 2014 and 2020. Fischer has received numerous awards for her teaching and artmaking, including a dance video editing award from Experimental Dance and Music Festival in LA (2023).
